+ Foundation: the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Vinh University was established under the Decision No. 1715/QĐ-BGD&ĐT-TCCB, dated April 17th, 2002 by the Minister of Education and Training. So far, the Department has been developed for 15 years (2002-2017)
+ Organizational structure: there are five sections in the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries:
Aquaculture (seawater – brackish)
Agricultural expansion encouragement and rural development.
+ Functions and mission:
Training undergraduate and graduate
Scientific research and technology transfer in Agriculture – Forestry – Fisheries fields and rural development.
+ Human resources:
There are 40 staffs including:
31 lectures (5 Doctors and 26 Masters)
03 technicians working at the experimental farms of fisheries and agronomy.
04 technicians working in the laboratories.
18 lecturers doing PhD in Vietnam and abroad (Australia, Poland, China and Russia).
+ Undergraduate and graduate programmes
Undergraduate: Aquaculture, Agronomy, Agricultural expansion encouragement and rural development, and Agricultural Economics.
Graduate: Aquaculture, Plant science
+ Type of education: full time and part time
+ Length: 4 years for undergraduate programmes and two years for master programmes.
From 2002 until now, the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has over 2,000 students and 450 graduate students. Two lecturers successfully defended PhD dissertations and 12 other lecturers are doing their PhD in Vietnam and aboard. Also, there are many graduate students who are working in the state institutions, companies and enterprises in fisheries and agricultural fields.
The staff and students of the Department have participated in a variety of projects in scientific research such as: One unilateral research project at the State level, four Gene Fund research projects, 19 research projects at the ministerial level and several research projects at the provincial and institutional levels. Three student groups achieved Vietnam technical innovation prize (VIFOTEC) and one golden cup for organic microbiological products awarded by the Department of Intellectual Property.
+ Professional opportunities
Working in research institutes, universities, colleges, state organizations related to agriculture, forestry and fisheries, companies and enterprises in aquacultural fields.
The sophomores of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries have opportunity to pay the internship in Israel for 11 months with the salary about 700-1,000USD/month.
The juniors have chance to conduct the internship at C.P Vietnam Joint Stock Company as well to be recruited to work for the company after graduation.
